Lincoln City commissioners Casey Miller and Walter Chuck are at odds over how to fill a vacant commission seat. The position has been empty since Claire Hall's unexpected death in January. Miller suggested waiting until after the May 19 primary election to see who voters liked, but Chuck disagreed, saying they had developed a process and interviewed two finalists. Miller's motion to appoint former sheriff Curtis Landers to the position died for lack of a second. The stalemate continues, leaving the position empty. Miller stated, "The point was to fill it until the end of the year...and maybe in the primary we'd see the community's choice." Chuck quickly disagreed, saying they had developed a process and had 24 applicants. Don was named a finalist by Chuck and finished first in the five-candidate race for Position 3.
