Lincoln City Loan Out Oscar Thorn to Colchester United

Lincoln City have loaned out winger Oscar Thorn to Colchester United for the 2026-27 season. The 22-year-old will spend the campaign playing for the League Two side, with the option for the Imps to recall him in January.

Why the Loan Makes Sense

Sporting director Jez George explained that the loan allows Thorn to play regular football, which is essential for his development. George stated, "Oscar needs football, which we cannot guarantee him at the moment, and this move allows him to play for a club and manager that he knows, and they know him, so that he can get regular game."

What Comes Next?

The plan is for Thorn to spend the season at Colchester United, with the Imps retaining the option to recall him in January. If he impresses, Lincoln City would like to secure a League One loan for him in the second half of the season. However, this would require Thorn not to play for the Imps this weekend, as the EFL rule only permits a player to register and play for two clubs in a season.

Thorn joined Lincoln City from Colchester United last August, signing a four-year contract. He made 35 appearances for the Essex club before moving to Sincil Bank. The Southend-born winger had previously spent time in the academies at Arsenal and Norwich City, while also gaining senior experience during loan spells with Bath City and Chelmsford City.

What's Next for Oscar Thorn?

Thorn will now focus on playing regular football for Colchester United, with the aim of returning to Lincoln City in January. The 22-year-old has had a decent pre-season, netting the only goal in 180 minutes of football last Saturday. He's seemingly back to his full fitness after an injury-hit campaign with the Imps, which included ankle surgery in November.
