A Lincoln City host has weighed in on the classic squad selection debate, stating he would always pick Dany N'Guessan over Ryan Amoo for his higher individual ceiling. The comments came during a live Q&A session with supporters, where questions on team spirit versus performance were addressed.
"I think that’s a really interesting question, and it’s hard to pick on those two variables alone," the host said. He used former players as examples, citing Jake Sheridan as a high-spirit player with a limited performance level and N'Guessan as a figure capable of moments of brilliance despite inconsistency.
The host was clear on a direct choice. "If you put Ryan Amoo and Dany N'Guessan in front of me as a choice, I’d always say N'Guessan because Amoo’s ceiling was lower." He noted the answer can depend on the opponent, suggesting a collective effort was needed against a team like Swansea. Lincoln City's last match was a 1-2 home defeat to the Swans on 19 September, a result that leaves them 12th in the Championship with 11 points from eight games. The team's recent form shows they have conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game over their last five matches, a statistic that shows the need for defensive solidity.
When asked about current divisive figures in the squad, the host said there is no player he would describe as such now, adding it is difficult to find a clear past example in the club's history. He emphasized that individual player characteristics matter more than general labels like 'team spirit'. He further elaborated that the senior squad's primary objective is to improve their goal-scoring efficiency, with the team averaging just 1.2 goals per game this season, a key metric the coaching staff is focused on improving.
The discussion comes as Lincoln prepare for their next Championship fixture, an away trip to face 18th-placed Sheffield United on 10 October. The team will be without the sidelined Tendayi Darikwa for that match, with the latest squad news available on our injuries page.
