Lincoln City have agreed a deal to bring 20-year-old striker Ethan Wheatley on a season-long loan from Manchester United. The move follows a period where Everton were also heavily pursuing the player for their academy and first-team squad.
What have Lincoln City agreed for Wheatley?
According to Sky Sports, the Imps have secured a straight loan deal that differs significantly from the proposal made by the Toffees. The agreement is a straightforward loan without any option or obligation to buy at the conclusion of the campaign. While Everton sought to secure the striker on a permanent basis this summer, the Red Devils were not willing to sanction a sale at this stage.
For Wheatley, the move to the Championship offers a clearer path to regular first-team game time than he might have found at Goodison Park. Missing out on this target represents a disappointment for the Everton officials, but Lincoln City gain a promising young addition to their front line.

The number nine position has remained a talking point for Everton since the departure of Romelu Lukaku. Speaking to Imps+, Shaw explained that the coaching staff had to manage these arrivals carefully because some players joined without completing a full pre-season preparation at their previous clubs.
"They’ve come in at certain parts of pre-season where they’re perhaps not match fit, so all of the new signings have been very, very positive on the training ground. We’re really excited to see some, if not all of them, fly tomorrow at Blackpool, but we’ve had to be a little bit patient with some stuff as well."
The club has played three competitive matches this season, including a victory over Derby County in the Carabao Cup and losses in the Championship against Middlesbrough and Portsmouth. The established core of the promotion-winning squad has been trusted to start the campaign while newcomers are gradually introduced as they build fitness. Shaw suggested that work at the Elite Performance Centre has been vital in helping these players close the fitness gap.
